Three types of learners: Find your strengths

There are three types of learners: Audio, Visual, and Physical.  Audio learners learn better with audio lectures, audio books, songs, podcasts etc. Visual learners learn better with images and maps.

1.       Visual:
Visual learners most of the time use their eyes to take in information. They process and recall information in pictures. Visual learners prefer video (live) lectures and video programs (Documentaries, Series, Movies) over podcasts. They think mostly in terms of pictures. They like mind maps, diagrams, visualizations, images, animations, graphs, 3d structures etc.

2.       Auditory:

Auditory learners most of the time use their ears to take in information. They process and recall information in sounds. Auditory learners prefer audio (live) lectures, radio and podcasts over lab experiments and, hands-on training. They think mostly in terms of sounds, rhythms, tempos, tone etc. They like group discussions, audio lectures, recorded notes etc.

3.       Physical /Tactile:

Tactile learners most of the time use their body movement to take in information. They process and recall information in touches, motion, position, material etc. They prefer lab experiments and hands-on training, DIY over books and class lectures. They think mostly in terms of feel, touch, sensations, surface, materials etc.

Most schools use learning models designed and good for only visual learners (Visual–linguistic and Visual-Spatial). Many educationists recommends learners to use learning method suitable to their learning types. But students can understand and learn better if they use methods related to all three learning types. Doing this will not only give a better understanding of the topic but also create strong memory associations among a different set of learned information. If you use a set of different learning methods, it will be easy for you to recall the information at a later point in time.
