Avoiding Regression - Speed Reading
Regression is another bad habit that prevents you from increasing
your reading speed. Regression is like “two step forward, one step backward”.
Avoiding regression will improve your reading speed and comprehension. While
reading, we frequently go back to previous words. This habit slows down our
reading speed. We must eliminate regression from our reading process.
You can use a pointer to guide your eyes and avoid
regression. Pick a pen, pencil or anything like that, and move it along the
words you are reading. Always move the
pointer in the forward direction and try
to focus on words pointed by it. Continuously Increase the speed of pointer.
Another thing important in eliminating regression is
complete focus. If you are in the now (Not thinking about the future or past),
and completely focused on what you are reading, you will not feel the need to
look back. So do not multitask, eliminate all distractions. Choose your reading
place wisely. Practice reading in the manner described in this page for a while
and it will become a habit soon.
